Sara
She is one of four siblings, but stands out with academic strengths. However, her body is frail and medical evaluation has not been possible due to economic circumstances. Both of her parents work and are gone most days. To keep the household running her sisters cook, manage their home and watch over their youngest brother. Even with these efforts, the family can only afford to send one student to school.
An aunt agrees to take Sara in because school options are better in her location. Sara is scared and yet excited for the opportunity. She is sent three hours away. Sara's sisters are happy for her because they know her academic strengths even though they carry a little jealousy and wish they too could go to school. They show their support for her success and Sara becomes an encouragement the family. Mom and dad carry guilt and fear. Will the relatives caring for Sara be kind and compassionate, will Sara behave or will her health deteriorate, will she make it? But what else can they do? The family is placing Sara in God's hands.
This heartbreaking choice is common and comes with traumatic impact in various forms.
However, Hope can be found in difficult situations. A Haiti One by One representative at Sara's new school identifies the special needs and dynamics that Sara faces. We can surround Sara with options to medical care, counsel and prayer.

Sara is...ChosenJoshua 1:9
Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified: do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. While pursuing expansion, Haiti One by One hopes to provide equal learning options in new areas... perhaps support is implemented for the area Sara is from and her siblings can have the same opportunity one day. |
YOU CAN CHANGE A LIFE, A COMMUNITY, A GENERATION
Keep students in school. Unexpected disruptions happen. When lapse of donations or monthly commitments stop, we secure the completion of a full school year. $25 is a easy way to give regularly, or give your own amount to fill the gaps of educational costs.

Monthly support towards an individual students education goes toward tuition, books, supplies and uniform. In each family, the program asks parents to give what they can. The participation of the family preserves dignity and responsibility in the process.
